Essential Qualifications
At the time of appointment candidates must have a law degree from a Canadian university. Alternately, the candidate must have a law degree from a university outside of Canada, together with a Certificate of Qualification issued by the National Committee on Accreditation.
- Good cumulative average in law school (for purposes of this process, Good is defined as a minimum cumulative average of B)
- Experience in one or more of the following:
- mooting;
- debating;
- legal aid/clinic work;
- completion of or enrolment in mooting classes;
- trial advocacy courses or civil litigation;
- working or volunteering in a litigation environment in the public or private sector
- Knowledge of the work of the Ontario Regional Office of the Department of Justice or the Public Prosecution Service of Canada
- Ability to analyse legal issues
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Initiative
- Judgment
- Dependability
- Language proficiency: English essential
Operational Requirements
- Candidates must be flexible with respect to hours of work, lunch breaks and rest periods.
- Candidates will be required to travel occasionally.

Asset Criteria
Experience working as a summer law student with the Department of Justice or Public Prosecution Service of Canada.

- Preference will be given to Canadian citizens
- Due to the number of applicants and the strict hiring deadlines imposed by the Law Society of Upper Canada, not all applicants will be interviewed. Only those candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. Screening may be conducted on a top-down basis, for example, selection for interviews may be based on candidates having more than one of the above essential experience criteria.
