"Due to"
should not be used as an adverbial prepositional phrase. The adjective "due"
should be accompanied by a form of the verb "to be"
, either expressed or understood.
Thus, the following sentence should be avoided: "Due to the rain, the game was postponed."
The opening words
should read: "Owing to the rain"
or "Because of the rain"
.
The following sentence is correct:
"The postponement of the game was due to the rain."
