I joined the Department of Justice in 1992, initially serving as legal counsel to the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development. Over the years, I have taken advantage of the mobility opportunities available to Justice lawyers. I have gained valuable experience and expertise as a commercial lawyer in government, working in legal services at Environment Canada and Health Canada and the Public Health Agency, and with Native Law (now the Aboriginal Law and Strategic Policy). I joined Treasury Board Portfolio Legal Services in 2007.
As a senior counsel in a central agency, I provide legal advice in a fast-paced, dynamic environment on a wide range of corporate, commercial, and Crown law issues in the federal context. My clients include officials and colleagues within the Treasury Board Portfolio, the Department of Justice, and the Department of Finance. I am also the Chair of the Department of Justice Commercial Law Practice Group, a network of over 140 lawyers who practise in various areas of commercial law. After more than 15 years, I still consider it a privilege to work at the Department of Justice. The opportunities to work on meaningful, challenging, and complex legal files abound, as do the opportunities to work with talented, dedicated Justice colleagues.
