Policy and Research Analyst Program - PRAP

Through this innovative program, the Department of Justice provides graduate-level students (i.e. students pursuing a Masters degree, a PhD, or students in law school) with valuable employment experience and the opportunity to put their academic and theoretical knowledge to practical use in a work setting. The PRAP offers employment opportunities in several areas within the Department. This allows successful applicants to exercise their innovative, analytical, and research capabilities. The program accepts students from a variety of disciplines and is suitable for students with an interest in public policy and a desire to contribute to Department of Justice efforts to develop and implement justice policies, laws, and programs and to deliver effective and responsive legal services to government. The PRAP is offered through the Public Service Commission's Research Affiliate Program.

Testimonials

“I would not hesitate to recommend this program to students who are self-motivated and enjoy a certain amount of independent work. I think anyone who is even remotely considering a career in government would gain a lot from the experience.”

- Student, Programs Branch

“I received ongoing feedback and support from both my supervisor and colleagues. This was very important because I was able to develop my skills and gain more responsibility as time went on. It also helped me feel more confident about the work I was producing.”

- Student, Policy Integration and Coordination Section

“The experience is invaluable not only in terms of improving written, oral, and other essential skills, but also in terms of learning the practical aspects of employment, opportunities which are often absent in academia.”
