Mediation Services (Nunavut)
Type of service
Community Justice administers a mediation and family counselling program together with an innovative dispute resolution, counselling and information program. It combines southern-based mediation techniques with traditional Inuit approaches to problem-solving in order to deliver culturally relevant dispute resolution services to Nunavummiut.
The Senior Family Mediator based in Iqaluit supervises the community counsellors. She is a bilingual Inuk, and has an important role to play in developing and promoting family justice services in the community. A long-term objective of this program is to develop mediation and family justice information services for all the communities across Nunavut.
