Office of Support Enforcement (New Brunswick)

Province/Territory
New Brunswick

Type of service
Support Enforcement

Services offered
The Office of Support Enforcement (OSE) is responsible for monitoring and enforcing support orders and agreements that are filed with the program. This means that OSE receives payments from the Payor (the person paying the support); maintains records of payments that are made; forwards the payments to the Beneficiary (the person receiving the support); takes steps (when necessary) to ensure the Payor makes the required payments. These steps include issuing wage deduction notices, intercepting federal funds, reporting to credit bureaus, suspending driver’s licences, requesting the revocation of a passport and seizing money in bank accounts.

How to access this service
All support orders made since February 2008 in New Brunswick are automatically filed with the Office of Support Enforcement. If a person has a support agreement that has been filed with the court, or a valid support order from a Canadian Court, or from a designated American state or other country and lives in New Brunswick, she or he can opt into the OSE program by filing a Notice to File a Support Order Form.

A Beneficiary can choose to receive payments directly from the Payor instead of using the OSE to collect their support. If the Beneficiary files a Notice Not To File a Support Order Form, the support order will not be filed with the OSE.

If the Beneficiary lives outside of New Brunswick, he or she should contact the Support Enforcement office in that area.
