Supporting Families of Missing or Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls

On August 3, 2016, we announced the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. At that time, the Minister of Justice announced funding for two new victim services initiatives to provide direct assistance to families of missing or murdered Indigenous women and girls during the course of the National Inquiry. New funding will support Family Information Liaison Units and more community-based grief and trauma counselling for families.

These initiatives are not part of the National Inquiry, but rather are parallel to it. The National Inquiry is independent of all levels of government. These initiatives are a response to what we heard during the pre-Inquiry engagement from survivors, families, and loved ones affected by this long-standing national tragedy.
