Government of Canada Taking Action to Help Victims of Crime
MONTRÉAL, January 24, 2013 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced $1.2 million over three years in funding for the Centre d'expertise Marie-Vincent in Montréal to undertake projects that will serve victims of sexual abuse. The funding comes from the Department of Justice Canada and from Status of Women Canada.

Government of Canada Celebrates the Opening of Winnipeg’s Children’s Advocacy
WINNIPEG, January 23, 2013– The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today attended the opening of the Winnipeg Children’s Advocacy Centre, designed to help better serve children and youth that have been victims or witnesses of crime. Minister Nicholson was joined by the Honourable Jennifer Howard, Minister of Manitoba Family Services and Labour.

Government of Canada Funds Programs to Help Victims of Child Abuse
CALGARY, January 22, 2013 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced $185,000 in funding for the Canadian Society for the Investigation of Child Abuse (CSICA). The funding will support the organization as it works toward implementing a voluntary national certification program for forensic child interviewers, and will also be used to help cover the organization’s operational expenses.

Victims of Crime in Yukon Benefit From Government of Canada Funding
WHITEHORSE, January 19, 2013 – Today, the Government of Canada announced it has allocated more than $600,000 in program funding to help victims of crime in Yukon. The announcement was made by the Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, on behalf of the Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada. Minister Toews was joined by the Honourable Mike Nixon, Minister of Justice for Yukon; and Ryan Leef, M.P. for Yukon.

Legislation to Double Victim Surcharge Passes in the House of Commons
Today, the Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, welcomed the passing in the House of Commons of Bill C-37, the Increasing Offenders' Accountability for Victims Act. The legislation would make offenders more accountable by doubling the victim surcharge that offenders must pay, and ensuring that the surcharge is applied to all offenders.
