BRITISH COLUMBIA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, November 27, 2009 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Anthony J. Saunders, partner with Guild Yule LLP in Vancouver, British Columbia, is appointed Judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia. He will replace Mr. Justice I.C. Meiklem, who elected to become supernumerary judge as of December 27, 2008.

Mr. Justice Saunders received a Bachelor of Arts and Science in 1981 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1984 from the University of Toronto. He was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1985 and the Northwest Territories Bar in 2008. He was an associate at Guild Yule and Company from 1985 to 1991 and partner at Guild Yule LLP from 1991 to 2009. His main practice area is insurance law with an emphasis on professional and product liability and property damage. Mr. Justice Saunders is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, Vancouver Bar Association and American Bar Association. He was also Pro Bono Counsel to the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association.

This appointment is effective immediately.
