QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, February 10, 2010 - The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Nicole M. Gibeau, a lawyer with Montgrain Gibeau in Longueuil, Quebec, is appointed to the Superior Court of Quebec in Montréal to replace Madam Justice S. Borenstein, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of September 20, 2009.

Madam Justice Gibeau received a Bachelor of Law from the Université de Sherbrooke in 1978 and was called to the Quebec Bar in 1979. She has been in private practice for the last 30 years. Her main areas of practice include family law, wills and estates, civil law, real property, as well as municipal and international law.

Madam Justice Gibeau has been active in many professional organizations, including the Barreau du Québec and the Association des avocats et avocates de province. She was President of the Barreau de Longueuil from 1994 to 1995. She is also former professor at the École du Barreau in Montréal, and former professor of legal studies at the Université du Québec à Montréal.

This appointment is effective immediately.
