SASKATCHEWAN JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, April 23, 2010 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Neal W. Caldwell, a partner with the firm McDougall, Gauley LLP in Saskatoon, is appointed a judge of the Court of Appeal, to replace Madam Justice D.C. Hunter, who elected to become a supernumerary judge effective August 14, 2009.

Mr. Justice Caldwell received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 1992 and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) (with distinction) in 1995 from the University of Saskatchewan. He was called to the Saskatchewan Bar in 1995.

Mr. Justice Caldwell was a law clerk to the Chief Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench for Saskatchewan (1995-1996). In 1996, he articled with the firm Clark, Wilson, Barristers & Solicitors, where he was an associate until 1998.

Mr. Justice Caldwell has practised with the firm McDougall Gauley LLP, Barristers & Solicitors since 1998. His areas of practice include intellectual property corporate law, business law, privacy law, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, banking and finance.

Mr. Justice Caldwell was a member of the Law Society of Saskatchewan and was an instructor of the corporate/commercial segment of the Saskatchewan Bar Course. He was a Registered Canadian Trademark Agent, as well as member of the Law Society of British Columbia, the Canadian Bar Association, the Canadian IT Law Association and the International Trademark Association. In terms of community involvement, he is an active member of the Saskatchewan Police Commission, the Saskatoon Club and the Western Development Museum Planned Giving Committee.

This appointment is effective immediately.
