QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, April 23, 2010 - The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Pierre Nollet, formerly legal counsel with CBC/Radio-Canada in Montreal, is appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Quebec ( Montréal) to replace Mr. Justice J. Gauthier, who retired effective April 22, 2010.

Mr. Justice Nollet received a Bachelor of Civil Laws (LLL) in 1980 from the University of Ottawa. He was called to the Quebec Bar in 1981 and Bar of Paris in 1992.

Mr. Justice Nollet has been with CBC/Radio-Canada in different capacities since 2002 and until recently was Vice-President, Corporate Secretary and Chief Legal Officer. He practised with Phillips & Vineberg (Montreal and Paris) from 1990 to 1995 and with Beaumier Richard & Associés from 1981 to 1990. His main areas of practice were libel and slander, freedom of the press, privacy law, corporate governance, commercial law, real estate and risk management.

Mr. Justice Nollet is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, as well as of various committees for the Law Society of Quebec. He was a member of the French Chamber of Commerce in Canada (1992-1995) and Club Richelieu (1985-1997).

This appointment is effective immediately.
