OTTAWA, June 18, 2010 - The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Shelley C. Fitzpatrick, a lawyer with Davis LLP (Vancouver), is appointed judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia to replace Madam Justice A.W. MacKenzie, who was appointed Associate Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of British Columbia on April 23, 2010.
Madam Justice Fitzpatrick received a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Manitoba in 1981 and was admitted to the Bars of Manitoba in 1982, British Columbia in 1985, and Ontario in 2008.
Madam Justice Fitzpatrick has been a partner with Davis LLP since 2001, an associate and partner with Campney & Murphy (Vancouver) from 1986 to 2000, as well as an associate with Fillmore & Riley (Winnipeg) from 1982 to 1985. Her main areas of practice are insolvency and commercial litigation.
Madam Justice Fitzpatrick was co-chair of the Business Solutions and Restructuring Group at Davis LLP. She has been a member of the Insolvency Institute of Canada, the Law Society of British Columbia, the Canadian Bar Association (Insolvency Subsection and Civil Litigation Subsection), and the Lawyer Referral Service. Since 2005, she has been chair of the British Columbia Model Insolvency Order Committee. She has also lectured extensively in the legal education field in British Columbia and authored numerous papers and articles on matters regarding insolvency.
This appointment is effective immediately.
