OTTAWA, August 11th, 2010 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Peter M.S. Bryson, a Judge of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia in Halifax, is appointed Judge of the Court of Appeal, to replace Madam Justice N.J. Bateman, who resigned effective August 4, 2010.
Mr. Justice Bryson received a Bachelor of Arts (B.A. – Honours) from the University of King’s College in 1977, a Master of Arts (Classics) from Dalhousie University in 1978, a Bachelor of Arts (Jurisprudence) from Oxford University in England and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Dalhousie University in 1981. He was admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1982.
Mr. Justice Bryson was appointed to the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia in 2009. Prior to his appointment, he practised with McInnes Cooper in Halifax beginning in 1982 where he was litigation manager and served on the firm’s Regional Board of Directors. His main area of practice was civil litigation, as well as corporate, commercial, securities, estates, special remedies, professional liability and shareholder rights.
Mr. Justice Bryson has been a part-time lecturer at Dalhousie Law School (1983-1993). He was a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society, the Law Society of New Brunswick and the Defence Research Institute. He is also an active member of numerous community organizations.
This appointment is effective immediately.
