OTTAWA, October 1, 2010 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Trevor C. Armstrong, Q.C., a lawyer with Hamilton Duncan Armstrong & Stewart Law Corporation (Surrey) is appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia in New Westminster to replace Madam Justice J.M. Gropper, who was transferred to Vancouver, effective April 17, 2010.
Mr. Justice Armstrong received a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Comm.) in 1976 and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) in 1977 from the University of British Columbia. He was admitted to the Bar of British Columbia in 1978 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2008.
Mr. Justice Armstrong has been the principal with Hamilton Duncan Armstrong & Stewart since 1998. He has been Justice of the Peace Small Claims Court Adjudicator since 2008. He was a partner with Bull Housser and Tupper in Surrey (1993-1998), a partner with Hamilton Duncan Armstrong & Stewart (1979-1993) and an associate with Jensen and Hamilton (1978-1979). His main areas of practice were general and commercial litigation and personal injury litigation.
Mr. Justice Armstrong was President of the Surrey Bar Association (2009-2010) and Director (2008-2009). He was a member of the New Westminster Bar Association (1978-2005). He has been a director of several community organizations, as well as a volunteer at the Western Canada Access Justice Society Advice clinics since 2006.
This appointment is effective immediately.
