OTTAWA, December 16, 2011 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Clément Samson, a lawyer with Joli-Coeur Lacasse in Québec, is appointed a puisne judge of the Superior Court of Quebec (District of Québec) to replace Mr. Justice J. Lemelin, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of November 8, 2011.
Mr. Justice Samson received a Bachelor of Laws in 1982 and a Master of Laws in 1988, both from l’Université Laval. He was admitted to the Bar of Quebec in 1983. He was appointed Avocat Émérite of the Quebec Bar in 2007 and in 2009 he received the title of Administrateur de sociétés certifié from the Collège des administrateurs de sociétés.
Mr. Justice Samson had been a lawyer with Joli-Coeur Lacasse since 1988, and a partner since 1995. Prior to that, he was a lawyer with Bhérer Bernier et Associés from 1983 to 1988. His main area of practise was civil litigation, commercial law and administrative law.
Mr. Justice Samson served as Bâtonnier de Québec in 2000 and as president of the Centre d’accès à l’information juridique in 2001. He has been a volunteer, fundraiser and board member of several organizations.
This appointment is effective immediately.
