MONCTON, January 27, 2012 – The Government of Canada announced today more than $1.6 million in funding to support victims of crime in New Brunswick.
The announcement was made by Robert Goguen, M.P. for Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice, on behalf of the Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, and the Honourable Marie-Claude Blais, Q.C., Minister of Justice and Attorney General of New Brunswick, on behalf of the Honourable Robert B. Trevors, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General of New Brunswick.

said Mr. Goguen. "We will continue to ensure that resources and programs are in place to better respond to the needs of victims of crime in New Brunswick and across Canada."

said Minister Blais. "This funding will go where we know help is most needed and will enhance what we already offer to victims of crime in our province."
The funding will specifically assist in developing programs that help victims of crime in the province. This includes:
This funding will also allow the New Brunswick Department of Public Safety to upgrade the technology it requires to train its staff, manage its programs and improve the public information tools to educate and assist victims of crime.
The funding was made available through the Victims Fund, a grants and contributions program administered by the Department of Justice Canada. The Fund currently has a budget of $10.2 million per year to give victims of crime a more effective voice in the criminal justice system.
