Title of the Legislative Text
National Energy Board Act, R.S., c. N-7
Provision

  87. (2) Where a land acquisition agreement referred to in section 86 is entered into with an owner of lands before a notice is served on the owner pursuant to this section, that agreement is void.

Problem
In the English version, the term "void" is inappropriate for civil law.
Solution
In the English version, the term "null" is added to reflect civil law terminology. The statement that this concept applies only in the Province of Quebec is also added to avoid any confusion. The term "void" is retained for common law purposes.

Harmonized Provision

(Amendment to the English version only)

  87. (2) If a land acquisition agreement referred to in section 86 is entered into with an owner of lands before a notice is served on the owner under this section, that agreement is void or, in the province of Quebec, null.
