Federal Programs

DPR exists in a variety of ways, and in a variety of government departments and agencies. DPRS provides assistance to departmental and government-wide DPR programs, including the Interdepartmental Shared Mediators Program.

This page is designed to provide you with the opportunity to share your DR experience. For information on how to post information or links on this page, please contact Jane Hansen at (613) 957-4695 or e-mail at dpr-prd@justice.gc.ca.

Initiatives - Departments and Agencies

Canadian Food Inspection Agency

The CFIA created its own Dispute Resolution Services, whose mandate is to serve as a centre of expertise in DR and to provide advice, assistance, facilitation and fact-finding skills to CFIA personnel.

  • Objectives: enhancement of relationships between CFIA employees and clients; high settlement rate; time and financial savings.
  • Training: the CFIA's 25 senior managers and 300 middle managers received intensive DR training of two and four days, respectively. To that end, two Department of Justice courses on negotiation and mediation were redesigned to meet the needs of the CFIA.
  • DR Fund: the CFIA received $52 500 from the DR Fund in order to implement its program.
  • For more details: article highlighting this initiative, as well as the lessons learned.

Lessons Learned

Learning from others is an important part of the design and implementation of a new DR program or the revitalization or expansion of an existing program.
