This is a multi-year program for 2 years.
The Miawpukek First Nation Committee will continue to:
- strengthen the capacity of local people for management of justice issues with particular emphasis on assessment and utilization of local knowledge, wisdom, skills related to Mi'kmaq traditions and culture, and drawn from the traditions of local people;
- enhance awareness of community strengths and resources and promote community building pratices particularly in relation to justice issues;
- identify and mobilize the resources offered through the traditional Mi'kmaq approach to justice and community building; and
- develop, with local people, a community building model for holistic justice to serve the Mi'kmaq people of Conne River and to provide training in its application to local residents. The training will focus on decision-making, conflict resloution, crisis intervention, problem solving, and team facilitation techniques. Traditional healing methods such as healing circles will be employed. Learning circles will explore the potential impact of holistic justice on community dynamics and the evolving roles of provincial justice in every community life.
