Purpose: The Ontario Federation of Indian Friendship Centres (OFIFC) is a provincial Aboriginal organization representing the collective interests of 28 member Friendship Centres throughout the province. The OFIFC Community Justice Programme, operated by the OFIFC, administers funds for five Aboriginal community-based justice programmes in participating Friendship Centres (Thunderbird, Three Fires, N'Amerind, and two First Nations). These community-based justice programmes are committed to implementing and maintaining a culturally-based post and/or pre-charged diversion programs for Aboriginal families, youths and/or adults who come into conflict with the justice system and provide them with meaningful alternatives to courts as well as addressing the needs of the victims. The vision shared by all participating Centres and First Nations is to improve the quality of life for Aboriginal people living in an urban environment by supporting self-determined activities which encourage equal access to and participation in the Canadian society and which respects Aboriginal cultural distinctiveness.
