Purpose: Reach Canada proposes to develop a program (process and resources) that inspires law professionals and Canadians with disabilities and their organizations to work together in the interest of equality in Canada's justice system, particularly in terms of accommodation, accessibility and responsible participation. Reach Canada will produce a professional development education component for law professionals and law students on matters of disability law and how to deal with the unique needs of persons with disabilities, as witnesses, litigants or associates in the justice system; help judges and courthouse staff understand the "duty of accommodate" and to address the outstanding equality concerns identified by persons with disabilities; develop a national Information Database Service, building on reference and resource materials on Canadian disability case law as well as policies and practices that relate to accommodation and accessibility; and help person with disabilities understand and consequently participate with confidence, in the Canadian legal/judicial system.
