On behalf of the Coalition on Community Safety, Health and Well-being, the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, with the help of the Canadian Nurses Association, the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse and the Child Welfare League of Canada, will host a National Invitational Symposium on Youth Illicit Substance Abuse and the Justice System. The Symposium will be held in Ottawa on February 25-26, 2009.
The symposium will bring together approximately forty-two (42) individuals from across the country, including those from remote and Aboriginal communities, who have experience with the health, justice, education and social service systems. The voices of youth will also be heard through the full participation of six young persons. Several participants will come from the national non-governmental organizations which make up the Coalition on Community Safety, Health and Well-being. Sectors invited to participate will bring experience in dealing with youth in a range of settings, including youth with substance abuse problems, youth who have been victimized, youth in conflict with the law and youth in the process of reintegration into mainstream society.
