Purpose: The Nak'azdli Justice Program has entered into a community-based justice program fund contribution agreement with the Department of Justice to manage the Nak'azdli Justice Program. The Nak'azdli Justice Program provides alternative dispute resolution, circle sentencing, diversion, mediation and preventative education for members of the Nak'azdli Band in the Village of Fort St. James, who are, or have been, involved in the court system, youth that are at risk, first time offenders, victims and elders. The objectives of the Nak'azdli Justice Program are to deal with the harmful effects of the residential school system still afflicting the community, and to divert young offenders and first time offenders from the courts by using traditional values such as, for example, those used in the Potlatch system.
