The Saskatoon Tribal Council (STC) has entered into a contribution agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to manage the STC Community Justice Program.
The program believes that a holistic, community-based approach is required in order to restore balance and harmony in the lives of the offender and the victim so that the healing process can begin.
The objectives of the program are to continue to assist communities in the development and implementation of community-based justice initiatives as identified by six of its seven member First Nations (Kinistin Saulteaux Nation, Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, Muskoday First Nation, One Arrow First Nation, Whitecap Dakota First Nation and Yellow Quill First Nation). One member First Nation, Mistawasis, receives separate funding for a stand-alone community-based justice program.
Program activities include diversion for youth and adults in the criminal justice system, providing technical advice, coordinating training, planning the development and evaluation of programs, justice committee development and orientation, policy development, data collection and public education.
