Saskatoon Tribal Council Urban First Nations Services Inc. has entered into a contribution agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to manage the Extrajudicial Sanctions Program and the Opikinasowin Reintegration Program.
These programs assist victims, at-risk youth, their families and community in understanding individual rights, the justice system and family rebuilding processes and aspire to assist youth in understanding and maintaining conditions while in supervised mediation agreements.
The Extrajudicial Sanctions Program provides for community-based, culturally sensitive extrajudicial sanctions for young offenders aged 12 to 17 through the use of victim-offender mediation and community justice forums to assist youth in taking responsibility for and repairing the harm caused by their conduct.
The Opikinasowin Reintegration Program provides a holistic approach in services to First Nations and Aboriginal youth aged 12-17 that have been assessed as medium to high risk to re-offend. The objective of the program is to reduce recidivism by assisting youth in acquiring the necessary tools and skills needed to lay the foundation for living a healthy and law-abiding lifestyle.
