The project is to help ensure that visitors to B.C., leading up to and during the 2010 Games, have access to information and support. Some of these visitors who may become victims of crime, may require the services in other languages than those of Canada's two official languages. Organized crime may attempt to use the Games as an opportunity to bring trafficked persons into Canada for the purpose of profiting from sexual and other forms of exploitation. Interpretation services for victims of crime and trafficked persons in a multitude of languages will be needed. The project will further build on current initiatives being implemented by the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General to provide enhanced interpretation services to victims and victim service workers.
