Purpose: The child's story "The Silver Horse" has been in use for several years and it is evident that the resource is out of date. In fact, the resource's use as a tool for disclosure has been found to be problematic in criminal justice proceedings. The purpose of this project is to better understand the elements that make a prevention resource successful and to provide leadership to the future development of new resources that will be put to appropriate use. The project will be divided in two phases. The phase One will consist of a discussion paper with a comparison of various public education and awareness resources and programs with a specific focus on how issues relating to disclosure are managed without undermining a potential criminal proceeding. The second phase will consist of an Expert Think Tank where Canadian experts in awareness/prevention, justice intervention and treatment of child abuse will gather for a two days event to help find an alternative to the child story "The Silver Horse".
