The Recipient proposes to immerse youth in the criminal justice system who are involved in, or at risk of involvement in, gangs in four separate, four day, camp sessions at Punky Lake Wilderness Camp. Through community leadership, Elders and trained facilitators, these sessions will focus on cultural, spiritual, and traditional teachings. This is the first time the three First Nations in the Williams Lake area have collaborated on this type of project. Each session will accommodate up to thirty people and will include parents or guardians. Sessions will focus on traditional methods, teachings and ceremonies to improve self-esteem and provide alternatives to gangs and violence. The sessions will also include stakeholders (i.e., RCMP) and other front line workers in an effort to improve overall relationships and build on partnerships.
