Purpose: The Miawpukek Mi'kamawey Mawi'omi First Nation has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to manage the Miawpukek First Nation (MFN) Healing and Sentencing Program. The Program continues to strengthen the capacity of local First Nations around the management of justice issues; promote community-building practices; and, remain current with the evolving roles of the Provincial and Federal Justice systems on a local level as well as on a larger scale. The Program accomplishes these goals by promoting the Mi'kmaq Traditional Justice practices through healing and sentencing circles, by conducting community and school presentations; and, gathering feedback and information from community members on the benefits of the circle process. Partnerships continue to grow with RCMP, Band Manager, Justice Department members, Police Advisory Committee, and other influential individuals, Victim Services, Adult and Youth Probation, and Child Youth and Family Services.
