The Teslin Tlingit Council has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to manage and deliver the Teslin Tlingit Council Peacemaker Diversion Program.
This Program promotes a holistic approach to addressing antisocial behaviour and the health of all community members. The Program offers an alternative justice procedure, based on traditional Tlingit justice, which aims to provide greater benefits to the victim, to society, and to the offender. This is accomplished by overseeing a pre- and post-charge diversion program, providing advice to the Circuit Court, operating a Peace Court, and utilizing a variety of dispositions, such as restitution, counseling and community-service orders. Working relationships are maintained with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Crown counsel, Clan representatives and community members. Services are delivered to the community of Teslin and surrounding areas.
