The Saskatoon Tribal Council Inc. has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to manage the Saskatoon Tribal Council Community Justice Program.
Using a holistic, community-based approach, the Program aims to restore balance and harmony in the lives of the victim and offender so that the healing process can begin.
The objectives of the Program are to continue to assist communities in the development and implementation of community-based justice initiatives as identified by six of its seven member First Nations (Kinistin Saulteaux Nation, Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, Muskoday First Nation, One Arrow First Nation, Whitecap Dakota First Nation and Yellow Quill First Nation). One member First Nation, Mistawasis, receives separate funding for a stand-alone community-based justice program.
Program activities include diversion for youth and adults, providing technical advice, coordinating training, planning the development and evaluation of programs, justice committee development and orientation, policy development, data collection and public education.
