The Listuguj Mi'gmaq Government has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to manage the Listuguj Restorative Justice Program.
The objective of the Program is to address underlying causes of conflict in the Listuguj community by implementing cultural and traditional practices that emphasize healing individuals, families and the community.
The Program plans to achieve its objective by managing cases of social and alternative justice matters, work place conflicts or any other self-referred matters that require support and assistance of the justice committee. The Program also manages referred files of young offenders under the extrajudicial sanctions program, and manages adult files under the alternative measures program.
The expected result is to increase the number of cases with youths and adults who require social justice support or referred services for alternative approaches to the criminal justice system.
