The recipient proposes to develop, implement and evaluate a pilot project providing special coaching to visible minority youth between the ages of 12 and 17. The pilot project is aimed at helping youth who have been involved with the criminal justice system and who are at risk of being recruited by street gangs by providing them with a program focused on rehabilitation, community reintegration and delinquency reduction.
Participants will learn how to communicate effectively, stay in school, get the most out of the richness of the group dynamics and take positive actions. To ensure that these youth start off on the right foot and to relieve boredom, they will participate in school, sports and recreational activities, not only through physical and athletic conditioning exercises, but also by doing artistic activities such as music and dance. In addition, they will develop their social and job searching skills, and learn how to manage their personal finances.
