The Cree Nation Government (CNG) has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to manage the Cree Nation Government Justice Committees Program and provide support within the nine Cree communities for the training, development and operation of local justice committees.
The CNG undertakes various training activities to develop core competencies to meet the differing justice-related needs of the respective justice committees. A focus is also placed on advancing the work of existing justice committees so that they can handle justice-related interventions and the diversion of youth and adults from the mainstream justice system.
The Program works with the following partners in order to fulfill its objectives: Corrections and social services, local police, local crown, courts and the CNG.
The Program serves all members, youth and adults, of the nine Cree communities: Whapmagoostui, Chisasibi, Wemindji, Eastmain, Waskaganish, Nemiscau, Waswanipi, Oujé-Bougamou and Mistissini.
