Yellowhead Tribal Community Corrections Society (YTCCS) has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to operate a project entitled, "Walking a Renewed Path."
Through this project, the YTCCS will review the diversion client files since 2000, to determine the recidivism rate, to see what has worked well in the diversion program, and to examine if there is a larger rate of recidivism with those suspected of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).
Also, the project will involve working with the justice system to review release conditions for these individuals, and to educate and train communities on how to effectively work with the offending individuals who re-offend or are impacted by FASD.
A final report will be developed which will include identification of gaps and clear strategies that will address the gaps in current service delivery models. Recommendations and support to enhance the current programing will also be made in terms of the findings of what is working well in the current diversion program. The findings will be shared with the Stony Plain Provincial Court FASD Protocol group as a way of developing strategies to enhance the current diversion program.
