The recipient proposes to enhance the current SNAP® youth justice programming modules to be culturally sensitive to the needs of Aboriginal male youth. According to evaluation data, some male justice-involved Aboriginal youth living in rural areas have experienced difficulty in relating to current SNAP® youth justice material. This project will develop culturally safe and relevant learning modules for this particular segment of youth. These new written modules will be developed in partnership with Aboriginal experts to reflect Indigenous ways of knowing and address real life scenarios from remote communities, while still incorporating SNAP® skills to improve self-control, decision-making skills, and pro-social strategies. This project will also explicitly recognize that not all Aboriginal cultures are the same and variety exists in culture, language, and environment among Aboriginal youth.
