Justice Canada Training
Current guidance from public health authorities states that large group gatherings should be avoided. As such, for the foreseeable future, the Centre of Expertise for Learning and Professional Development (LPD) and the Centre for Legal Education Services (CLES) will continue to offer learning opportunities using a virtual format in place of in-person classroom training. Online self-paced courses are also available.
The Department continues to explore its options with respect to learning activities involving sensitive information at the Protected B level or higher. Details about the formats for future learning events will be outlined in the Justice Training Calendar, as well as in communications and promotional materials. LPD and CLES will continue to review their approaches based on the most current guidance with respect to physical distancing.

To reduce the strain on our network, we encourage employees to take online training outside of peak times (9:00 am to 5:00 pm ET). You may register by completing a Training Request through the Self-Service module in PeopleSoft.
Some legal learning events are available as recorded Webcasts only. After your registration is complete, a link to the recorded Webcast will be forwarded to you. Please notify CLES when you have completed this legal training and confirm the name of the law society of which you are a member, so that they can ensure your PeopleSoft status is updated.
Mandatory training for all employees on easing workplace restrictions
Many jurisdictions across Canada are taking steps towards re-opening the economy and some workplaces. The Department is preparing in advance to allow for a staged, moderate and controlled increase in the number of employees working on site. These plans are based on the assumption that we will be working remotely for the foreseeable future.
All employees are required to take the Easing Workplace Restrictions online course. The training consists of 9 modules delivered via self-paced eLearning. Managers and supervisors who already participated in the manager's version of this course are not required to complete this training.

For those managers and supervisors who may have missed out on any parts of the manager's version of the training, the course materials are now available on the course description page on the Digital Workspace. These include:
- The PowerPoint presentation and recording from module 1;
- The self-paced online courses and recordings of the Q & A sessions from modules 2 and 3; and
- The PowerPoint presentations and recordings from modules 4A and 4B.
Additional training opportunities
- Managing Virtual Teams: Effective teamwork is critical to our success; yet, many of us are expected to manage employees from a distance. Without daily face-to-face contact, it can be challenging to oversee the work of our team members and maintain our focus on achieving results. This three-hour, interactive workshop will help you to foster an environment based on teamwork and collaboration – one that encourages full participation and engagement.
- Fostering a Healthy and Respectful Workplace: The Department offers a range of internal course offerings, including sessions on Navigating Conflict, Managing Workplace Stressors and Pressures and other related topics.
Training from the Canada School of Public Service (CSPS)
To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, all classroom courses, events and other in-person programs from the Canada School of Public Service (CSPS) have been suspended until further notice, including all registration for these activities. However, online courses, including self‑paced and virtual classes, mandatory training and language maintenance tools, remain available through GCcampus.
Be sure to check out the COVID-19 Learning resources on the CSPS Website. These include:
- Information about upcoming courses and learning events;
- a range of job aids and videos;
- learning paths for working in a virtual environment; and
- the latest COVID-19 updates.
Additionally, given that most public servants are working remotely, the School has organized a Virtual Café Series on current topics of interest.
Among other things, the School offers offer virtual learning activities, tools and resources for all employees in areas such as:
- collaboration and teamwork;
- change management;
- mental health and wellness;
- human resources management; and
- second language maintenance and development.
Note: To reduce the strain on Department of Justice and Government of Canada networks, we encourage you to log off the Justice Network before taking any training from the School. To access online courses provided by CSPS and other external training providers, using a Justice laptop but outside of Government of Canada networks, follow these instructions.
