FEDERAL COURT JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, February 27, 2015 – The Honourable Peter MacKay, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Central Nova, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Denis Gascon, a lawyer with Norton Rose Fulbright Canada in Montréal, is appointed a judge of the Federal Court to replace Mr. Justice D.J. Rennie, who was appointed to the Federal Court of Appeal.

Mr. Justice Gascon received a Bachelor of Science (Economics) from the Université du Québec à Montréal in 1982 and a Master of Industrial Relations degree from Université Laval in 1984. He attended the Université de Paris I Panthéon Sorbonne, where he received a Diplôme d'études approfondies in 1985, and the Université de Montréal, where he received a Bachelor of Laws in 1988.

Mr. Justice Gascon joined the firm Ogilvy Renault (now Norton Rose Fulbright Canada) after being called to the Bar of Quebec in 1989 and became a partner in 1997. He practised competition law and international trade law. He was a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the International Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He has also been recognized in numerous legal publications in the areas of competition law and international trade regulations.

This appointment is effective immediately.
