Description
This figure is a broken-line graph showing the actual (1977-1998) and projected (1999-2003) number of adults charged with drug offences in the Prairies (Manitoba, Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories). The number of adults charged was around 15,454 in 1977, and then decreases until 1988 before increasing again to 15,645 cases in 1981. Then there is a significant decrease, going from 15,645 cases in 1981 to 9,784 in 1982. There is a downward trend in the 1980s and early 1990s until 1995, when the number of cases is the lowest for the period studied (5,617 cases). The following years and the projected years of 1999-2003 show a slight increase in the number of adults charged with drug offences, and the rate fluctuates between 6,164 cases in 1999 and 6,863 in 2003.
