Figure 7 illustrates perpetrators of assaults against children according to police statistics from 1997.
The x axis represents the different types of perpetrators in 4 categories: parent, sibling, extended family and spouse. Each category is further divided by 2 sub-categories, physical assault and sexual assault.
The y axis is measured in percentages, from 0 to 70 and in increments of 10.
Parents accounted for 65% of physical assaults and 44% of sexual assaults, followed by siblings, 19% for physical assaults and 30% for sexual assaults. Extended family member accounted for 9% of physical and 25% of sexual assaults and spouses accounted for approximately 1% of sexual assault and 9% of physical assault.
