The Assistant Deputy Attorney General (ADAG), Litigation has functional and coordination responsibility for all litigation conducted by or on behalf of the Department of Justice and chairs the National Litigation Committee. In addition, the units within the Litigation Branch include: the Litigation Practice Management Centre; the Civil Litigation Section; the Management of Class Actions and Mass Litigation Unit; the National Security Group; National Security Coordinator; and the International Assistance Group.

The evaluation includes interviews with those working within the Litigation Branch, with representatives of Justice Canada, and with representatives of other government departments who are familiar with the work of the Litigation Branch.
