Purpose:

The project will address identified needs regarding participation of Aboriginal people on juries and will build relationships between Aboriginal youth, justice sector professionals, adults and elders in fly-in communities. OJEN proposes to address the need for justice education for Aboriginal youth in the Northwest by undertaking the following activities: development of the Mock Trial scenario and jury materials; visit selected high schools to introduce the roles and people involved in a trial; discuss sections of the Criminal Code; development of jury materials for community legal workers and community residents and translation of jury materials for community members.
