Purpose:

The Regina Alternative Measures Program has entered into a contribution agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to organize and deliver its 6th Elders & Youth Sharing Symposium entitled 'Building Pathways to Peace' on February 19, 2009. The goal of this workshop, which is based on restorative justice and Peacemaking is to:
- Recognize the importance of Elders in communities and community programming;
- Promote greater understanding of RAMP's community and cultural goals;
- Encourage Elder participation in RAMP's programs;
- Encourage greater youth and Elder interaction;
- Provide specific learning experiences for participants;
- Promote cross-cultural understanding;
- Combat negative cultural stereotypes; and
- Develop self-esteem for youth
Peacemaking is a method of communication and problem solving derived from Aboriginal and native traditions, and are used in relationship development, healing, community building, and restorative justice efforts. The objective of this workshop is to open up fresh possibilities for connection, collaboration, and mutual understanding between youth and Elder participants.
