The Onion Lake Native Justice Inc. has entered into a contribution agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to manage the Onion Lake Community Justice Program.
The objective of the program is to implement and deliver a pre- and post-charge diversion program that seeks to restore and reintroduce traditional justice practices. The program engages in community-based sentencing and corrections, and operates pre-release circles to support the reintegration of offenders into the community.
Formerly operated by the Onion Lake Cree Nation, this newly incorporated entity will focus on the development of a mandate, vision and mission statement, as well as a strategic planning process to ensure that their philosophy, mission and goals are compatible with community aspirations.
