Purpose:
|
Nishnawbe-Aski Legal Services Corporation has entered into an agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to administer the Restorative Justice Program.
The primary objectives of the Program are to assist the community in gaining empowerment over crime and its resolution by diverting specific criminal offences to Community Accountability Conferencing; to assist offenders in accepting responsibility for their actions; and to provide collective support to victims. The Program provides pre- and post-charge diversion through the Community Accountability Conferencing model to 26 communities within the Nishnawbe-Aski Nation across northern Ontario.
