The Southern Chiefs' Organization Inc. (SCO) has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to manage the First Nation Justice Strategy Program.
SCO will create and maintain adult and youth criminal diversion programs in First Nation communities, located in Southern Manitoba, with the goal of reducing the number of individuals in contact with the mainstream justice system. Programs will be community-based and community-driven, reflecting the language, traditions and needs of each specific community. Through Community Justice Committees and Community Justice Workers, the Program will work with the Crown and RCMP to receive pre- and post-charge diversions.
