Purpose:

The Bande des Atikamekw d'Opitciwan has entered into a funding agreement with the Department of Justice Canada to manage the Programme du Comité de justice sociale d'Opitciwan.
The objectives of the Comité are to restore harmony and balance in the community; promote the participation of community members and include them in the restoration of harmony; and promote the adoption of peaceful behaviours.
The activities the organization will undertake to meet the objectives are to offer diversion/alternative measures programs, mediation, and sentencing advice to courts. These services will serve both youth and adults in the Opitciwan community.
The expected results are to improve and strengthen collaboration with public safety, social services, and other sectors of the community; and establish the collaboration and effective communication with prosecutors, judges, and lawyers.
