Purpose:
|
British Columbia proposes to undertake several activities to advance victim services and access to justice for victims and witnesses, while giving victims a more effective voice in the criminal justice system in BC. Planned activities include: undertaking a community engagement process to better understand the needs of victims in Northern BC; undertaking a needs analysis and consultation process with victim service providers; conducting workshops with stakeholders to explore a variety of paths in working towards standards and training scheme for restorative justice; raising awareness about services to victims of crime in rural communities; hosting three "Train the Trainer" workshops; training individuals to be support group facilitators for persons bereaved by homicide; continuing the adaptation of the Alberta e-learning Victim Advocate Training; and refurbishing a dedicated victim/witness support area within the Vancouver Provincial courthouse.
