Purpose:

This project will support the continuing legal education and training of the Inuit Court Worker's employed by Maliiganik Tukisiiniakvik Legal Services in 13 Baffin Island communities. The training, which is intended to take the form of a 3 day, in person, continuing legal education seminar on bail, will relate to criminal law and procedure of bail hearings. Case law updates, practice tips and theory are intended to be covered in the seminar. The goal is to build sufficient capacity to have community Inuit court workers able and available to offer in person representation to accused hoping to avoid pretrial detention.
